On October 8, 2007, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development provided members of the Tenleytown and Friendship Heights communities with a draft Solicitation of Offers for the development of the Tenley-Friendship Neighborhood Library/Janney Elementary School site.  Two weeks were provided for preparation of comments, and on October 31, Friendship Neighborhood Association submitted a Resolution commenting on the draft Solicitation.

After developers presented their proposals and members of the Tenleytown and Friendship Heights communities submitted comments to the ODMPED, FNA submitted comments to the Advisory Neighborhood Commission.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Tenley-Friendship Neighborhood library was held on September 23, 2009.  Construction of the new library has begun and it is anticipated that the library will open in December 2010.

The District of Columbia Public Library Capital Construction Report dated September 23, 2009 briefly describes the status of the Tenley-Friendship Neighborhood Library construction and other DCPL construction projects.
